Journal:
7th October 2014
Today, we started our Marine Studies Presentation, we joined into a pair easily and quickly and discussed what topic to choose. The end choice was to create an Eco Tourism resort in the Great Barrier Reef. We started by constructing a website full of ideas on what our eco-tourism resort would look like, feel like and how it would impact the environment and local people as well as creating a Prezi full of information on the eco-tourism resorts on the Barrier Reef, Sunshine Coast. Some of these things included the definition, conservation information, how it impacts the environment ect.
9th October 2014
Today, research was done on eco-tourism in general. We competed a green task which was a prezi that includes the definition of eco-tourism and what it is all about. We collaborated with other students and discussed what the purpose of eco-tourism is as well as how it effects the environment and the people themselves.
14th October 2014
Today, we completed a blue task which included eco-tourism research and we developed an understanding of what eco-tourism is and looked at some of the best eco resorts worldwide. We then created a word document with information about eco-tourism and its impact that it has on our planet. We also included two amazing eco resorts as examples. One was located near Uluru, Australia and the other in the Swiss Alps. During this lesson, made progress and used our time productively. We completed a mind map on paper and used colours to code each topic.
16th October 2014
This lesson Harriet was absent due to the Chemistry excursion. We completed our Prezi with pictures, a definition of eco-tourism, the conservation, the impacts of Eco tourism, the communities involved and many pictures were shown about eco-tourism resorts and eco-tourism itself. This lesson Harriet was absent due to the Chemistry excursion. We edited our eco-tourism website and completed some of the different pages including accommodation and activities. The website worked well and was a huge success as it educates the public and tourists on the island about the importance of eco-tourism and saving wildlife, sea creatures and our oceans. The lesson was ended by Harriet and I making and designing our resort on paper and the transferring it to a digital model.
21st October 2014
Today, we completed a website for our resort on Wiki.com, it includes contact details, information about the island and also pictures and fun eco activities for the guests staying at the resort. This would benefit the environment as well as educate visitors. The activities at the resort include educating the guests about eco life, animals and the general information on eco-tourism in fun and interactive ways. We worked as a team today getting work done on both computers (working on the website as well as starting our design brief.
23rd October 2014
Today, we learnt new skills and printed out the criteria sheet on what we are required to complete to get the best mark possible. We evaluated and chose our final tasks and started preparing them such as a plan for our mind map that would be done on paper and written out.
28th October 2014
Today, we completed the collaboration and understanding task to our best ability. We found different locations around the world where eco-tourism resorts are situated as well as completing the mind map on paper and will be finished the assignment next week.
30th October 2014
Today, Candice was absent. The mind- map was started and completed. The website that the majority of the information came from was: http://www.environment.gov.au/resource/harmful-marine-debris
This website had an in depth range of information on marine debris, who it effects and what is being done to help. The mind map was done by hand on a blank piece of paper and took the whole double lesson to complete.
4th November 2014
Today, we checked on what we had done with Mr. Spring and created a website for all of the tasks that we have completed so that they will all be in the same place. We scanned the mind map so that it could be put onto the website. That night at home we continued to copy all of the tasks that we had completed this term onto their place on the website and added many relevant images of different eco resorts and snorkelling pictures for each task.
6th November 2014
Today, our goals were to complete the Analysing information task and start planning the self-assessment sheets. We completed nearly every task and started on the Analysing Information task as well as started planning the Evaluating Information task. These tasks will be added to our eco-tourism website
10th November 2014
This afternoon we created a marketing campaign for the internatinally based eco project, Green Cross. The marketing campaign consists of a poster/ flyer and a video advert. The websites that I used were: http://www.gcint.org/ and http://www.theamericangreencross.org/Page_5.html
and http://www.greencrossaustralia.org/. I made the flyer on microsoft publisher and the video through windows movie maker. The video and flyer can both be seen on the page of this website labelled; 'Green Cross'
11th November 2014
Today we emailed a year 4 class about visiting their class and teaching them about issues in the marine enviroment. This is for the community part of our grade. We were unable to get much done due to the rememberance day assembly and morning tea being extended over our lesson.
13th November 2014
Unfortunatly Candice was sick today and unable to be here. Today we Completed our 'Community' task with Zoe. We we able to have 15- 20 minutes with Mr. Sigmes year 4 class. It went even better than we had expected it to. The students were very enthiusiastic and interested in the short lesson. They asked lot's of great questions and paid attention.
The lesson consisted of a 'river story' that Mr. Spring suggested and kindly sent to us. We altered the script slightly to meet our recources and idea's. When we got back I also completed a reflection of our work this term .
This afternoon I completed the task that involved choosing a eco- tourism project in Queensland and analysing their efforts. The project that I chose was 'Sailaway', a company that provides enviromentally friendly sailing and snorkelling cruises on the Great Barrier Reef. The website is http://sailawayportdouglas.com/. Candice also altered the fonts and design of our website.
